Short-Circuited Transmission Line Method

"Short-circuited transmission line method" provides a PIM measurement being free from the impedance matching of the load and the transmission line. Since the sample connected at the tip of the transmission line as a short-circuiting material is excited by the current maximum of standing wave, this metrology can extract the “current base” nonlinearity with high stability and high sensitivity. It also enables to evaluate the sample of arbitrary shape because the impedance matching is unnecessary, and to minimize the residual noise of the measurement system by using the characteristic of the standing wave. This method, for example, would be powerful in the material choice for low-PIM components with quantitative analysis.
